What to Expect in a Parenting 2B Class

If you are expectant, the you have probably recieved information from your hospital or doctors office about new parent classes. If that is the case, then you are probably wondering what to expect and what you might learn the classes and they are actually worth your time time and money.

It is our recommendation that you do take these classes. Attending a parent-to-be class with your partner will teach you the basics of childbirth and how to care for a newborn.

Even if you think know most of the basics, it is still a good idea. 

Parenting classes vary in length and content. Some classes are taught by hospital professionals, such as RNs, and others may be taught by experienced parents or other local health professionals.

The common element in all new parenting classes is that they prepare the novice and experienced parents alike how to best to care for their new baby. 

A new father to be might go into the classes thinking it is very difficult to change a diaper and new mother to be might think that natural childbirth is an easy process. It is likely that both parties will leave the classes with entirely different opinions than when they went in.

Hospital Tour

During the classes it is likely you will get a tour of the hospital, including the labor and delivery department, the nursery and the recovery rooms so that you will what to expect when you go to the hospital for childbirth.

Additionally, the parenting class will also show movies of an actual child birth to desensitize queasy husbands who faint at the sight of new mom's blood.

Lamaze and Circumcision

Parenting 2bclasses also assist you make informed decisions about such things as water birth, spinal anesthesia, as well as information about circumcision if you are having a boy.

You will also learn about emergency c-sections, and why you should consider using cord blood banking for the newborn. Many parenting 2bclasses focus exclsuively on  Lamaze techniques as well as what the partner should do in coaching and relaxation techniques to assis the mother during labor.

In parenting 2bclasses, you will learn how to care for the umbilical cord care, and simple newborn emergencies and care such as born even has a slight fever, when you should call a doctor, how to clip the babies toe nails and how to give a them a bath while the umbilical cord is still healing.
